Max Johnson Trio
| Social |
|---|
The Max Johnson Trio is led by New York-based double bassist, composer, and improviser Max Johnson, a prominent figure on the contemporary American jazz and improvisation scene. In his work, he blends his experience in jazz, free improvisation, and other musical genres, building on the energetic, physical sound of the double bass. The current trio builds on the album I’ll See You Again, released in 2024. On that album, Johnson works with more straightforward jazz compositions inspired by figures such as Charles Mingus, Mal Waldron, and Thelonious Monk, while at the same time leaving plenty of room for spontaneity, tension, and open interplay. The result is music rooted in the jazz tradition, yet with a distinctly contemporary energy.
