Prague Quiet Music Collective: 100°C

In their new project, the Prague Quiet Music Collective places live music in an unusual setting – a Finnish sauna heated to 100°C. The indoor, outdoor, and waterside spaces of the NUUK sauna by the Old Elbe will come alive through a unique musical ritual in which sound marks the time of heating, cooling, and rest. Equipped with specially prepared instruments and voices, the musicians will also enter the sauna itself; at other moments, they will accompany visitors as they step into the river or relax by the fire. Campfire guitars, tuned in just intonation, will also play their part. Alongside the live performers, pre-recorded and amplified sounds will resonate through the structure of the sauna itself.

Prague Quiet Music Collective
The Prague Quiet Music Collective is an ensemble dedicated to contemporary composed and improvised music, with a focus on quietness, slowness, and silence. Since its founding in 2021, it has presented more than fifty world premieres and performed in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, and Sweden. It has collaborated with composers including Klaus Lang, Jürg Frey, and Eva-Maria Houben, and has developed projects in partnership with the National Museum, the Prague City Gallery, and Czech Radio Vltava. The ensemble’s recordings have been released by Another Timbre (UK), Sawyer Editions (US), and Warm Winters (Slovakia). It also organises the annual Prague Quiet Music Festival, whose guests this year included the Swedish composer Kristofer Svensson and the American violinist Maya Bennardo.
