INTERIOR OF THE CHURCH
The design for this building (1929) was created by the renowned architect Josef Gočár in a functionalist style with nautical elements. The interior furnishings of the church are simple and unadorned. Emphasis is placed on the granite table of the Lord in the shape of a broken host, which also represents open arms. Above the table hangs a large white cross made of fiberglass by the well-known Czech artist Maxim Velčovský. The cross shows the imprint of Jesus on the cross, or the symbol of a dove, while some see the worm of Adam's apple. The choir loft is decorated with a pneumatic organ from 1952 and a sculpture of Master Jan Hus by artist Milan Kuzica. Regular services and meditations are held in the church, and regular art and photography exhibitions are held in the ground floor rooms of the Ambrož Gallery.
EXTERIOR OF THE COMPLEX
The entire complex is shaped like a ship sailing through the city. A ship that, in the midst of life's storms, is meant to be a place of peace and safety for all who long for God's and human closeness. The outdoor space consists of brick buildings – the rectory and diocese (bishopric), the walls of the columbarium – a place for urns, and the white walls of the church. The church is distinguished by its 28-meter-high tower, which houses the only concert carillon in the Czech Republic with 50 bells and a keyboard – concerts are held every first Sunday of the month. At the same time, an automatic system plays various compositions three times a day, at 9:30 a.m., 12 p.m., and 5 p.m.
